Los Angeles, California- Looking to bounce back from a tough loss, the Bruins changed their starting lineup and sent out sophomore guard Noah Saucedo to try to deal with some of their shooting struggles and offensive woes. Sure enough, the Bruins came out with more firepower and energy than they did against Canoga Park, and quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead just moments into the first quarter.
As the game progressed, the Bruins once again turned to stars Cypress Ohebsion and Nathan Muhumuza to provide most of the offense for the team. Saucedo knocked down a three, and so did freshman guard Stevan Markovic to help the Bruins keep pace. However, unforced errors on the offensive end allowed Palmdale to climb back in the game, and by the time the halftime buzzer sounded, the lead for Geffen Academy had been cut to just two.
In the third quarter, the Bruins continued to feed Ohebsion and Muhumuza in order for offensive buckets, and they really picked things up on the defensive end, holding Palmdale to around 10 points in the quarter. The fourth was more of the same, with Muhumuza and Ohebsion providing the offense, and the rest of the team playing the supporting cast. Ohebsion’s younger brother, Jordy Ohebsion, also knocked down a couple of big jumpers to keep the pressure on Palmdale, and that was the way it ended. Muhumuza was much more aggressive after the break, and when asked about how he was trying to be assertive on offense, he said, “ I saw that going into the second half we were up by two points, and I didn’t like that. I didn’t like how comfortable we got and I had to step on the gas and help my team in whichever way possible.” He certainly did that, finishing with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists after a quiet first half. Geffen Academy will be back tomorrow to take on St. Pius X at De Toledo High School once again to try to keep the momentum and build a winning streak.
