Los Angeles, California -
Missing superstar guard Stevan M. ‘26, it was simply too little too late for the Geffen Academy Boys Varsity Bruins on Friday, despite mounting a comeback in the 4th quarter on three consecutive threes to cut the lead from nine to tie it at 42 with just over six minutes left in the game. However, the Bruins were outscored 16-9 for the remainder of the contest as they missed some open looks and the Vikings were able to capitalize on their timely triples.
Jonathan K. ‘24 led all scorers for Geffen Academy with his first double-double of the year as he posted 13 points and 10 rebounds to keep the Bruins within striking distance for the most part of the game. Sophomore Noah S. ‘25 added another 9 points for the Bruins, all coming in the final period to really apply the pressure to Vistamar. Unfortunately, the absence of a top scorer and playmaker in Markovic really cost the Bruins. It didn’t help that Jordy O. ‘25 was elbowed in the middle of the 2nd quarter, resulting in a flagrant foul and Geffen Academy’s top bench scorer not being 100%. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 7-7, as they remain around the .500 mark and fall to 6th place in the 8 team Coastal League. The Bruins will have to regroup and figure out their late game woes in order to make noise the rest of the season and the playoffs.
