Avalon, Catalina - The momentum never changed sides as the JV Boys game ended and shifted into the Varsity Boys as Geffen Academy jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, with all buckets provided by Stevan Markovic. The Bruins continued to push the pace, and by the time the first quarter ended, the Bruins had a 22-4 lead. The Lancers would start to hit some shots, but were unable to do anything more than trade buckets with Geffen Academy until halftime. Down by 18 after 8 minutes of action, trading baskets isn't usually a recipe for success.
Senior Cypress Ohebsion led all scorers with 21 points, including going 4-7 from three point range. Markovic finished with 14 and 10, once again proving to be an unexpected force on the glass. Sophomore guard Nathan Muhumuza also finished just four assists away from a triple-double. By the time the game had reached the middle of the third quarter, it was out of reach of the Lancers to catch up.
The win for Geffen Academy improves their Boys Varsity team to 3-3 on the season, with the team yet to win or lose consecutive games. With three coming up in the next week, Geffen Academy will try to win multiple games in a row and look to get on a roll heading into the new year with many more battles and tests yet to come.
