The Geffen Academy Basketball Bruins, who entered Thursday’s matchup against Beacon Hill winless, were looking for a bounce-back game after suffering a devastating loss to Sherman Oaks by just two points less than 24 hours earlier. The Bruins came out firing on all cylinders, grabbing a first quarter lead and then never looking back. Highlighted by the dominance of Nathan Muhumuza and Jonathan Katz, Geffen Academy never allowed Beacon Hill to recoup an advantage after the opening minutes. Muhumuza and Katz, who totaled 31 and 15, respectively, led the Bruins on both ends of the floor. In fact, Muhumuza was extremely close to the rare quadruple-double, as he notched eight steals as well as seven assists and seven boards. Katz, who put up a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards, was instrumental to the success of the Bruins on both ends of the floor.
Despite the aggressiveness of Katz and Muhumuza, the entire squad made key contributions throughout all thirty two minutes. Every single Bruin who touched the hardwood either recorded a bucket or multiple rebounds. Freshman Ethan Hong and Junior Andrew DeUgarte accentuated the slew of the other Geffen Academy Bruins who made considerable contributions on the floor. Beacon Hill, who finished the game on a small run, made the final score look a lot closer than it really was. The domination of Geffen Academy spanned from the opening tip to the concluding buzzer, and provided the team with a nice taste in their mouth as they rumbled into their regular season.
