Los Angeles, California- When you play sports, there are going to be games you lose and there are going to be games you win. This was a losing one. The Bruins came out flat-footed from the opening tip, and the energy never really picked up throughout the remainder of the game. If you are around the game of basketball enough, you’re bound to have heard the phrase, “Basketball is a game of runs.” Unfortunately, the Bruins didn’t have many runs in them, and they fell quietly to the Jaguars.
Lack of offense wasn’t the main problem in this one, though. While 49 points isn’t great, it can get you a win in an ugly or low scoring affair. Leading scorer and sole varsity freshman Stevan Markovic had 9, but the scoring was spread around very evenly amongst the team. The problem was, De Toledo put up 79 points through 32 minutes of action, including 57 points through the first half, a mark some NBA teams don’t reach in a game. From there, De Toledo took their foot of the gas, and coasted to a win.
The Bruins will look to put this one in the rearview mirror and defeat New Roads in their final game of the tournament to try to even their record. They say losing teaches you more than winning, and Geffen players, coaches, and fans alike hope they can forget about this one and go into the next game with a clear and fresh mindset.
